Welcome Home, Henry!

With Henry and Mom doing so well, we were able to leave the hospital Sunday afternoon. Driving home, however, was a bit overwhelming. In addition to our paranoia regarding all the suddenly, completely inept drivers on the road, a part of us felt like we had just been away for the weekend. We left home late Friday afternoon and returned Sunday evening, with the world around us resuming that Monday. Except instead of a sunburn, we were coming back with our son. To the extent you can analogize childbirth to a vacation, it was the best vacation, with the greatest souvenir, imaginable!

Hook 'em, Henry!

He is a born Longhorn! Taking after his dad once again. Hook 'em, Henry! (And no, this picture was not posed. For any skeptics in the bunch, we have several independent witnesses.)

Curtain Call

Henry Hubert Scott debuted at 5:51 p.m. on April 4, 2008. He tipped the scales at 8 pounds, 13 ounces (the exact same as his mom when she was born), and measured 21 inches in length. Most impressive, however, was his hair -red (just like his dad).

Show Time

Almost There...

Ben and I had our last doctor's appointment on Thursday, April 3rd at 5:00 p.m. After turning himself breech at 36 weeks, an ultrasound that evening revealed Henry lounging in my belly sideways. The doctor informed us that I would have to have a C-section based on his position. Anxiously, I asked, "When?". To our surprise and delight, he said, "Tomorrow." At 2:00 p.m. on April 4th, we received the call from the hospital telling us to come on down. Here I am leaving the house for the last time without Henry in tow.

Waiting for Henry

Dear Henry,

Mom and Dad cannot wait to meet you. We love you very much and look forward to all the ways in which you will enrich our lives. You are a blessing already. Please come see us soon.

Safe travels,
Mom and Dad

Introductions, please.

For those of you who don't know, Kim and Ben met their senior year at Boston College. After graduation, they relocated to Chicago, where Kim taught high school and Ben worked as a market maker on the floor of the CBOE. In 2003, Kim resigned from teaching to attend law school (and unbeknownst to her at the time, plan a wedding). That August, Ben proposed to Kim on the coast of the Dominican Republic. The couple was married in a family church in Mendon, Michigan on July 24, 2004. After the honeymoon was over, no pun intended, they began to think more long term and decided to move to San Antonio, Texas, Kim's hometown. On April 4, 2008, those long term plans came to fruition as the couple welcomed their first child, Henry Hubert Scott. Kim works as an attorney, while Ben works in commercial real estate and is completing his MBA at The University of Texas in Austin. Both also work at being the best parents they can be to Henry -a task that proves daily to be a great honor and reward.
