How it all ended...

Thankfully, the Horns lasted longer than H. Happy Thanksgiving 2009!

Run Turkey, Run!

Our Thanksgiving started off with a trot at the 34th Annual San Antonio Turkey Trot. It was a beautiful day, and a fun race, and certainly made us a feel a little better about all the food we stuffed ourselves with later that day!

Gobble, Gobble!

So, he copped out of the program, but afterward he gave the camera a little show.

Henry's Thanksgiving Program & Feast

Known to Ben and me now as "Complete Chaos Program & Feast." The video below is from the program. You'll note a large gap in the area of the stage where Henry's classmates should be. Watch the video and you will see why. The lunch was wonderful, a full Thanksgiving spread, but the little ones were so excited from the program, they could not sit still, let alone eat. Ben and I were sweating from all the child-wrangling by the time we left. Definitely one of those rare times that I was actually, mildly looking forward to leaving Henry with his beloved teachers and friends and going back to work!

Portland or Bust!

Over Columbus Day weekend, Henry and I visited Meme and Grandpa in BEAUTIFUL Portland, Oregon. We sure do miss them here in Texas, but Portland does make for a lovely vacation. Needless to say, we had a wonderful time! Thanks, Meme and Grandpa for having us. For those of you that weren't there, here's a brief recap:

Day One. Henry and Mom leave San Antonio at 6:00 a.m. We fly to Denver (1 hour and 40 minutes). Henry falls asleep on the descent into DIA. We fly to Portland (2 hours and 45 minutes). HENRY DOES NOT SLEEP A WINK! Thankfully, I had escaped to Target the night before and loaded my carry-on with never-before-seen toys and a portable DVD player, made complete with a Thomas the Train DVD.

After arriving in Portland, Henry was thrilled to see Meme waiting for him at the airport! Of course, he promptly fell asleep once he had him in the car. Later that afternoon, we met Grandpa and went to the Roloff Farm in Helvetia, Oregon. While there, Henry refused to ride the pony and instead spent his time trying to lift the largest pumpkin he could find.

Day Two. It began the way all good days do, with a great breakfast at a yummy neighborhood diner in Nob Hill. Later that day, we explored the Portland Rose Gardens. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures of the roses -must have been busy chasing H!

Day Three. The Oregon Zoo in Portland. One word to sum it up: Incredible. And we only saw half!

Grandpa and Henry checking out the hippos.

Meme and Henry rock climbing in the cat quarters.

The train... very serious stuff!

Henry makes buddies with an orangutan.

Henry vs. Bear.

The End... Henry leaving with his souvenirs! Thanks for one of our best days ever, Meme and Grandpa!

Day Four. We left. Not exactly a photo op, especially at 4:30 in the morning. : (

But, we sure can't wait to come back!

Why I Still Love IKEA...

Yes, I am 30 now... well past the days of furnishing my college dorm room and our first condo. However, being the bargain-hound I am (Ben swears spend more saving money than anyone he knows), I just can't leave IKEA in my past. And here's the reason why: ours for the bargain price of $15, it includes a dry erase board for use with markers (H's favorite), butcher paper for coloring with crayons, and a chalkboard complete with, eeekkk, chalk (I am still hiding that side from him). He truly loves it! I love how much he loves it, and how little it cost!

Happy Halloween!

The Halloween Festivities were seemingly non-stop (and so much fun) this year... a far cry from one year ago, when Henry refused to wear his costume, could care less about candy (might be nice to turn the clock back on that one), and fell asleep before the first trick-or-treater arrived on our doorstep.

To recap, the celebration started the weekend before with a trip to the Botanical Gardens for the BOOtanical and the Giant Bugs exhibit (note, the super large ant in the background).

Then, on Thursday, we visited the Pumpkin Patch. Henry first tried lifting all the "biiiiiiiiiig" pumpkins...

... before deciding it was more fun to collect as many little ones as he could.

Together, we had a great time!

On Friday, it was overalls and "all aboard" (he really says it -so stinkin' cute) again for the parade and pizza party at school.

That evening, we joined our friends, Nick and Gabby, and their sweet little girl, Mia (aka, Henry's girlfriend, as evidenced above) for some yummy take-out and pumpkin carving. I think Gabby and I might have enjoyed it more than the kids, though.

And after all that, it was actually Halloween! The three of us went to a party, where the adults had to dress up too. Ben, being a former rugby player and a pack-rat, suggested we go as rugby players. Thankfully, he still had all his official gear! Then, we remembered Henry had a rugby jersey too (albeit about two sizes too small). So...

(Note, the mini-rugby ball and the headband, which he wore the ENTIRE evening.) After cracking open a pinata and lining up for pictures, we loaded the little ones into the wagon for some trick-or-treating. Needless to say, Henry had a great time!
